For homeowners seeking the ultimate in quality and design, our high-end fencing options include custom designs, premium materials, and exquisite finishes. Enhance your property with a fence that stands out for its elegance and durability.

Types of Fences We Install in Toronto

The right fence depends on your privacy needs, property layout, maintenance preferences and budget. We install several types of residential fencing for Toronto homeowners.

Pressure-Treated Wood Fences

Pressure-treated wood is a practical choice for homeowners who want a traditional appearance at a more accessible price. The treated lumber resists rot and insects, while styles such as board-on-board and shadowbox can provide backyard privacy. Properly set posts and routine staining or sealing can extend the fence’s service life.

Cedar Fences

Cedar has a natural colour and grain that suit many Toronto homes. Its natural resistance to rot and insects makes it a popular wood fencing option. Cedar can be built in traditional or modern styles and stained to suit your outdoor space.

Composite Fences

Composite fencing combines wood fibres and manufactured materials for a low-maintenance solution. It resists rot and does not require the regular staining that wood fences need. Kerta is a certified TimberTech Pro installer, and we can discuss whether composite fencing fits your design and budget.

Aluminum Fences

Aluminum fencing provides a durable, open design that works well around gardens and landscaped areas. As a Fortress installer, we can discuss metal fence options that suit your property. Aluminum fencing generally does not provide the same full privacy as solid wood or composite panels.

Privacy Fences and Screens

Board-on-board panels, solid panels and horizontal slats can create a more private backyard. We’ll consider sightlines, property boundaries and the layout of your outdoor living space when planning the fence. Privacy screens can also coordinate with a deck or patio.

Custom Gates

A gate should suit the fence and provide convenient access. We plan gate placement, size and style around how you use your yard, whether you need a pedestrian gate or a wider entrance.

How Much Does Fence Installation Cost in Toronto?

Fence installation in Toronto typically costs 27-90 per linear foot, with many backyard projects ranging from $3,000 to $12,000.

Fence material Typical installed cost per linear foot
Pressure-treated wood 27-45
Cedar 45-85
Composite 55-90
Aluminum 45-90

Your final price depends on the fence’s length and height, material, number of gates, removal of an old fence, site access and the slope or condition of the ground. Our written quotes set out the planned work and costs, so you can make decisions before construction begins.

Do You Need a Permit to Build a Fence in Toronto?

Most standard residential fences do not require a building permit if they comply with Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 447. The bylaw sets rules for fence height and other requirements. As a general guide, rear and side yard fences may reach 2.0 metres, while lower limits apply to front yards, particularly near the street.

Pool enclosures have separate requirements and require the applicable City approvals. Taller or non-compliant fences may need an exemption. We check the requirements relevant to your property before construction. For current rules, consult the City of Toronto’s fence information.

Fence Staining, Maintenance & Repair

A well-built fence lasts longer with a little care. We recommend fence staining or sealing wood fences every 2–3 years to protect against Toronto's sun, rain and snow, and checking posts each spring after the thaw. Noticing loose boards, a sagging gate or a leaning post? Contact us and we'll take a look. If your fence is near the end of its life, we'll give you an honest answer on whether to repair or replace.
